On multivariate discounted compound renewal sums with time-dependent claims in the presence of reporting/payment delays

    Get PDF
In this paper, we consider an insurance portfolio containing several types of policies which may simultaneously face claims arising from the same catastrophe. A renewal counting process for the number of events causing claims and multivariate claim severities which are dependent on the occurrence time and/or the delay in reporting or payment are assumed. A unified model is proposed to study the time-dependent loss quantities such as the discounted aggregate reported/unreported claims and the number of the incurred but not reported (IBNR) claims. We then derive the joint moments of (i) different types of discounted aggregate claims until time tt; and (ii) different types of discounted aggregate reported/unreported claims (including the total numbers of IBNR as special case) until time tt. Finally, some numerical examples involving covariances and correlations of the aforementioned quantities are provided.postprin

On the discounted aggregate claim costs until ruin in dependent Sparre Andersen risk processes

    Get PDF
In this paper, a dependent Sparre Andersen risk process in which the joint density of the interclaim time and the resulting claim severity satisfies the factorization as in Willmot and Woo (2012) is considered. We study a generalization of the Gerber-Shiu function (i) whose penalty function further depends on the surplus level immediately after the second last claim before ruin (Cheung et al. (2010a)); and (ii) which involves the moments of the discounted aggregate claim costs until ruin. The generalized discounted density with a moment-based component proposed in Cheung (2013) plays a key role in deriving recursive defective renewal equations. We pay special attention to the case where the marginal distribution of the interclaim times is Coxian, and the required components in the recursion are obtained. A reverse type of dependency structure where the claim severities follow a combination of exponentials is also briefly discussed, and this leads to a nice explicit expression for the expected discounted aggregate claims until ruin. Our results are applied to generate some numerical examples involving (i) the covariance of the time of ruin and the discounted aggregate claims until ruin; and linebreak (ii) the expectation, variance and third central moment of the discounted aggregate claims until ruin.postprin

On some properties of a class of multivariate Erlang mixtures with insurance applications

    Get PDF
We discuss some properties of a class of multivariate mixed Erlang distributions with different scale parameters and describes various distributional properties related to applications in insurance risk theory. Some representations involving scale mixtures, generalized Esscher transformations, higher-order equilibrium distributions, and residual lifetime distributions are derived. These results allows for the study of stop-loss moments, premium calculation, and the risk allocation problem. Finally, some results concerning minimum and maximum variables are derived and applied to pricing joint life and last survivor policies.postprin

Some distributional properties of a class of counting distributions with claims analysis applications

    Get PDF
We discuss a class of counting distributions motivated by a problem in discrete surplus analysis, and special cases of which have applications in stop-loss, discrete Tail value at risk (TVaR) and claim count modelling. Explicit formulas are developed, and the mixed Poisson case is considered in some detail. Simplifications occur for some underlying negative binomial and related models, where in some cases compound geometric distributions arise naturally. Applications to claim count and aggregate claims models are then given.published_or_final_versio

Asymptotic analysis of risk quantities conditional on ruin for multidimensional heavy-tailed random walks

    Get PDF
In this paper we consider a multidimensional renewal risk model with regularly varying claims. This model may be used to describe the surplus of an insurance company possessing several lines of business where a large claim possibly puts multiple lines in a risky condition. Conditional on the occurrence of ruin, we develop asymptotic approximations for the average accumulated number of claims leading the process to a rare set, and the expected total amount of shortfalls to this set in finite and infinite horizons. Furthermore, for the continuous time case, asymptotic results regarding the total occupation time of the process in a rare set and time-integrated amount of shortfalls to a rare set are obtained.postprin

On the joint analysis of the total discounted payments to policyholders and shareholders: Dividend barrier strategy

    Get PDF
In the compound Poisson insurance risk model under a dividend barrier strategy, this paper aims to analyze jointly the aggregate discounted claim amounts until ruin and the total discounted dividends until ruin, which represent the insurer’s payments to its policyholders and shareholders, respectively. To this end, we introduce a Gerber–Shiu-type function, which further incorporates the higher moments of these two quantities. This not only unifies the individual study of various ruin-related quantities, but also allows for new measures concerning covariances to be calculated. The integro-differential equation satisfied by the generalized Gerber–Shiu function and the boundary condition are derived. In particular, when the claim severity is distributed as a combination of exponentials, explicit expressions for this Gerber–Shiu function in some special cases are given. Numerical examples involving the covariances between any two of (i) the aggregate discounted claims until ruin, (ii) the discounted dividend payments until ruin and (iii) the time of ruin are presented along with some interpretations.published_or_final_versio
